Welcome to History
History is the study of humanity’s recorded past. It encompasses all aspects of human behavior, social organization, and cultural development, and is one of the best disciplines for understanding the world we live in today.
The Department of History has thirteen full-time, tenured/tenure-track faculty offering a wide variety of courses in the history of the United States, Latin America, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe, as well as courses in cultural history, social history, diplomatic history, and the history of women. Approximately one-third of History majors enter the Single Subject Credential Program here at Fresno State and teach history or social science in middle schools and high schools throughout California. However, there are many other popular career choices for history majors, including law, government service, librarianship, journalism, and social services.
