Fresno State is set to host the 34th California Indian Conference on Oct.18-19, 2024.

The California Indian Conference provides a forum for the sharing of knowledge, scholarship, and issues of importance related to Native Califomia. The conference brings together California Indians, academics, tribal scholars, educators and students, public agencies and institutions, tribal communities and organizations, and the general public.  

This year’s conference theme is Sovereignty Movements and will feature speakers on; traditional ecological knowledge, environmental stewardship, climate change, sacred site preservation, Indigenous perspectives on education, language revitalization (including Choinumni, Chukchansi, Mono, Wukchumni languages local to the area), basket weaving, seed banking, food sovereignty, workforce development, public history, and NAGPRA (human remains and artifacts) repatriation and compliance.

The conference will feature presentations of papers, panels, roundtable discussions and vendors.

Funding for this event is provided by the Fresno State Office of the President, Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, College of Social Sciences, and the American Indian Studies Program.

Registration, information tables and vendors, will be located outside the Ellipse Gallery located on the 2nd floor near the elevators. There is also a Starbucks on the 2nd floor.

The library opens at 8:00 am on Friday and 9:00 am on Saturday. We will have coffee and a continental breakfast in the mornings on both days, as well as lunch available in the Table Mountain Reading Room located on the 3rd floor of the library. Plenary sessions and panels will start by 9:30 am both days.

You will need a parking code for Friday, Oct. 18th (but not for Saturday the 19th). Please use this code at one of the parking kiosks on the South end of the campus near the library: 331628. Lots P-30 and P-31 are closest to the library.

The Holiday Inn Express at 650 W. Shaw Ave in Clovis is able to accommodate our Group Reservation for October 17 and 18th. The room rate is $139.00 per night for a double room. All rooms that have been reserved are double rooms. If anyone requires an ADA compliant room please request that directly with the hotel. All room reservations need to be made by October 10. 2024. Call 559-297-0555 then push 2 to speak to a representative to reserve a room. 

Presenters please bring your powerpoint presentations on a flash drive.
