Dr. Calvarese joined the department in 2000 and is a full professor. She received
a Ph.D. in geography from Texas A & M University, a M.A. in geography from West Chester
University, and a B.A. in geography from Villanova University. Her primary research
area is human geography, specializing in medical and cultural geography. She teaches
a variety of human geography courses, as well as courses in city and regional planning.
She has done extensive fieldwork in East Africa and East Asia researching diffusion
patterns of tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. Her current work focuses on global interpretations
of wellness, health, and beauty. She has been serving as department chair since 2016.
