Professor Dangi, a 2017-18 Fulbright Specialist Award winner from the U.S. Department of State, has received numerous recognitions for his work, for example, he has been recommended for Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award to Nepal in 2020 also by the U.S. Department of State. He was nominated for Steven K. Dentel AEESP Award for Global Outreach and his students have received Best Poster Presentation Awards at state (CCRS 2013) and international (GWMS 2010) research presentations.
Professor Dangi earned his Ph.D. and MS in Geography and Environmental Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University, both MSc in Environmental Science and Engineering and BSc in Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Refining with a minor in Asian Studies and International Politics from Colorado School of Mines, and AS in Physical Sciences from Central Wyoming College. He is a professional engineer (PE) in Colorado and serves on the Editorial Board of Waste Management & Research, Journal of Minerals and Materials Characterization and Engineering, Journal of Waste Management and Environmental Issues, and Jacobs Journal of Civil Engineering.
Professor Dangi is known best in applying stratified cluster-sampling technique to understand municipal solid waste generation at the source in low-income countries. He has successfully tested a combination of engineering and social science approach to tackle a four-decade long, ineffective endeavor in solid waste management in Kathmandu, Nepal. The work has received considerable media and official attention including publications in various high impact factor journals.
Other local, national, and international research activities include life cycle analysis of green waste in Fresno; an evaluation of water quality in the San Joaquin River, America’s Most endangered Rivers 2014; coalbed methane produced waters in Wyoming; and examination of community-based solution to advancing climate change in the Himalayas.
