Statement in the wake of the killing of George Floyd

The Department of Criminology is proud to announce that Assistant Professor Dr. James Pitts has accepted an invitation to join the Fresno Commission for Police Reform. This commission was created by the Fresno City Council on June 11th of this year and was charged with providing recommendations for police reform to the city. The commission’s membership was announced by the Fresno Bee in the link below. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Pitts on this very important appointment.

Professors Clement, Kieckhaefer, and Marshall, with help from Outstanding Criminology Undergraduate Student Nuvia Garcia, finished a several year long grant project with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). This program evaluation examined how various contraband interdiction programs influenced drugs and other illegal items, violence, and visitation at California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility (SATF) and State Prison in Corcoran.
