Alfred B. Evans, Jr. is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Political Science at California State University, Fresno. He received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Texas (Austin) and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin (Madison). His area of specialization is comparative politics, with special emphasis on Russia. He has taught courses on Russian Politics, Russian Foreign Policy, Modern Politics, and Terrorism. He has presented many papers at meetings of scholarly associations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies and the American Political Science Association. Dr. Evans has published over forty journal articles and book chapters. He is the author of Soviet Marxism-Leninism: The Decline of an Ideology, and is a co-editor of Restructuring Soviet Ideology: Gorbachev’s New Thinking, The Politics of Local Government in Russia, and Russian Civil Society: A Critical Assessment. His current research focuses on civil society in Russia and ideological trends in that country.
